Why does the UK tax year end on 5 April?
A leftover from the 1752 calendar change, when eleven days were dropped and the old New Year of 25 March was shifted to keep the tax year the same length.
Does the ISA allowance carry over?
No. Whatever you have not used by 5 April is lost, and a new allowance starts on 6 April.
