Starts at sunset onFriday, October 1, 2027and lasts 2 days

Rosh Hashanah begins at sunset before 1 Tishrei and lasts two days. In 2027 it begins the evening of 1 October; in 2028 the evening of 20 September.

This year's date has passed. Counting down to the next one.

Rosh Hashanah is the Jewish New Year and the start of the High Holy Days, ten days that end with Yom Kippur. Because the Hebrew calendar is lunisolar, the Gregorian date shifts each year, landing anywhere from early September to early October.

What gets forgotten is practical: honey and apples for the table, seats at services that book out, and the greetings to family that should go before sunset on the first night.
