Workout reminders that are harder to ignore

Exercise reminders are a real slice of what people set here: 122 of them, though from only 7 people, so treat the size of that number carefully. It is a habit a few people lean on hard rather than something most users do, and it behaves almost exactly like the water reminders it sits next to.

The failure mode is familiar. You install a fitness app, it reminds you for nine days, and then its notification becomes part of the wallpaper. Nothing about your intention changed. The channel just stopped working.

The problem is delivery, not motivation

A fitness app's reminder lands in the notification tray next to app updates and a shopping app's sale. Clearing that tray without reading it is a skill you have deliberately built, and it does not switch off for the one notification you meant to keep.

A WhatsApp message lands somewhere else: the same list as your family and your work group, which you open all day and actually read. The reminder inherits that attention, not because of a trick but because of where it arrives.

There is also nothing to open. No app to launch, no streak to maintain, no session to log. The habit that keeps this alive is checking WhatsApp, and that one is not in doubt.

Attach it to something already in your day

A reminder at a time you are never free gets dismissed until you cancel it. Pick the time by what your day already does, not by what you wish it did: right after you drop the kids, right before dinner, the moment you close the laptop.

The reminders that survive in our data are the ones set at hours people are actually available. Almost nothing here is scheduled between midnight and 6am, which sounds obvious until you set a repeating reminder and discover it does not know that.

Use a window for anything that repeats fast

Movement reminders often want to be frequent: stand up, stretch, walk for five minutes. Anything faster than daily needs a daily window or it will find you at 2am and you will cancel the whole thing the next morning.

This is the single most useful setting on the page, and the water reminders next door make the case. Of 602 water reminders in our database, 416 carry a daily active window. The setups that last are overwhelmingly the ones that were told when to shut up.

Changing it is one message

The interval you pick on day one is rarely the one that fits by day ten, and the useful move is to adjust it rather than abandon it. Send “list” to see what is running, “actually make it 7am” to shift one, “cancel 2” to drop it.

If a reminder is irritating you, that is information: change the time or slow the interval. A repeat you resent gets cancelled, and then you have nothing at all.

It does not track anything

There is no log, no streak, no chart, and no record of whether you went. It reminds you, and that is the whole feature.

If you want sets, reps, progressive overload and a graph, use a training app, and it will be much better at that than this is. This is for the part before all of that: being reminded, at the right hour, somewhere you will actually see it.

It also cannot tell whether you did the workout, so a recurring reminder repeats until you cancel it. There is no stop-when-done, because nothing here can know it is done.

Questions, answered

How do I set a workout reminder on WhatsApp?
One message to a reminder bot. “gym every day at 6:30am” or “workout every weekday at 7pm” is the whole setup, and the reminders arrive as WhatsApp messages. Nothing to install, no account to create.
Why would this work when my fitness app's reminders stopped working?
The difference is where it arrives. A fitness app notification sits in a tray you have trained yourself to clear without reading. A WhatsApp message sits in the list with your family and your work group, which you read. There is also no app to keep opening and no streak to break.
Can I get reminders to stand up or stretch during the day?
Yes, and these can repeat as often as you like. Add a daily window such as “between 9am and 6pm” so they pause overnight. This matters: of the 602 water reminders in our data, 416 carry a window, and the ones without are the ones people cancel.
Does it track my workouts?
No. There is no log, streak, chart, or record of whether you went. If you want training data, use a proper fitness app. This only handles the reminder, and it cannot tell whether you did the workout, so a repeat runs until you cancel it.
What does it cost?
Free for 7 days with everything included, no card and no signup. After that it is a small subscription, from ₹59/month in India.
