everyday reminders

I keep forgetting to reply to messages. What can help?

If you read messages and forget to reply, save the reply as a task before leaving the conversation. Include the person's name, what you need to answer, and a time when you can do it. A short acknowledgement can let them know you have seen the message; a reminder helps you return to the actual answer.

You might need to check your calendar, find a document, or listen to a voice note somewhere quiet. Give that next step a time. You can use a calendar, your phone's reminder app, or Poko if you want the reminder to arrive on WhatsApp.

A three-step routine for replying later

Try this the next time you open a message you cannot answer straight away. Keep the reminder specific enough that you can pick up the conversation without working out what you meant.

The example buttons open Poko on WhatsApp with a reminder already typed. Change the name, task, or time, then press Send. Read Poko's confirmation to check what was scheduled. Opening the button alone does not set the reminder.

  1. Acknowledge it if someone is waiting

A short answer can be enough for now: “Seen this, I'll check my calendar and get back to you this evening.” Choose a time you can manage. You can also save a reminder without sending an acknowledgement if the conversation does not need one.

  2. Save the reply before switching tasks

Write the person's name and the thing you owe them. “Reply to Priya about Saturday dinner” gives you a clear next action. Set a time when you will have your phone and any information you need.

  3. Answer or choose another time

When the reminder arrives, return to the conversation and send the reply. If you are still unable to answer, set a fresh reminder for a realistic time. If someone is waiting on a time you promised, send them a brief update too.

If you need to check something before replying

Make the missing step part of the reminder. For an invitation, that might be checking your calendar or asking the person you are going with. For a question about work, it might be opening a file on your laptop.

Choose a time when that information will be available. If you need to answer sooner than tomorrow, change the example before sending it.

If a long message or voice note needs more time

Save a time when you can read or listen properly. Include both parts of the task so the reminder brings you back to answering as well as catching up.

If writing a long response is the part you keep putting off, try answering the main question first. You can say that you will return to the rest when you have more time. Keep any new promise small enough to follow through on.

If you promised to send something after a conversation

Record the thing you promised while you still have the conversation open: the document, photo, address, or answer. Schedule it for when you can access it.

For example, “send Arun the document” is a task you can finish when you get back to your laptop. Poko reminds you to send it; you open the original conversation and send it yourself.

If several conversations need a reply

Try a short daily review at a time you usually have a few minutes. Open the conversations you still need to answer, reply to the straightforward ones, and give anything that needs more work its own reminder.

A daily review is a backup for the messages you have saved. Set a separate reminder for a reply with a deadline. If an app lets you mark a conversation unread, you can use that as a visual cue, with the review time as your prompt to look again.

Poko sends the review reminder you ask for. You choose which conversations to open and answer. The recurring reminder continues while your trial or subscription is active, until you cancel it.

If it has already been a few days

Keep the acknowledgement brief and include the answer they were waiting for. For an everyday conversation, that could be: “Sorry I left this hanging. Saturday works for me. Are you still free?”

If the original plan has passed, you could say: “Sorry I missed this. How did it go?” If you still need more time, tell them what you are checking and when you can respond. Save a reminder for that next step before leaving the chat.

You can care about a conversation and still struggle to return to it. If the reply feels difficult rather than forgotten, try making the next step smaller: answer one question, send a short update, or say you need some time to think.

If you dismiss the reminder and still forget

Check what got in the way. If the reminder arrived during your commute, choose a time when you are settled. If you needed a document, include finding it in the task. If you had already replied, cancel the pending reminder.

In Poko, send “list” to see pending reminders and use “cancel N” with the number from the latest list. You can ask to move a pending reminder to another time. If it has already arrived, send a new reminder request for the reply you still need to write.

Poko only sees what you send to its own chat. It cannot read your other WhatsApp conversations, detect whether you replied, or automatically chase an unanswered message. A one-off reminder sends at the time you set; any repeat needs its own schedule.

Try it with one message you want to answer

Think of one conversation you want to return to. Open the example below, add the person's name and what you need to say, and press Send. Keep the two-minute time for a quick test or change it to a time that works for you.

Check the task and time in Poko's confirmation, and check the timezone shown in the welcome message. You can send “timezone” followed by your city if it is wrong. When the reminder arrives, open the person's chat and write your reply. Keep WhatsApp notifications enabled and the Poko chat unmuted if you want an alert.

Poko works through WhatsApp on Android and iPhone. The first 7 days are free, with no card required. After that, a paid subscription is needed to keep reminders running.

Questions, answered

How can I stop reading messages and forgetting to reply?
Before leaving the conversation, save a reminder with the person's name, the answer or action you owe them, and a time when you can act. Send a short acknowledgement if needed. When the reminder arrives, answer or set a fresh reminder if you still need more time.
Does marking a message unread help me remember to reply?
It can serve as a visual cue in apps that support it. Pair it with a time to review the conversations you have saved. For a reply with a deadline, set a separate timed reminder so you have a prompt to return to it.
Can Poko automatically remind me about unanswered WhatsApp messages?
Poko cannot read your other chats or detect unanswered messages. You send it the task and time, such as “Remind me in 30 minutes to reply to Priya.” It sends that reminder to you on WhatsApp. You return to the original conversation and write the reply yourself.
What should I say when I forgot to reply for days?
For an everyday conversation, briefly acknowledge the delay and answer the message: “Sorry I left this hanging. Saturday works for me. Are you still free?” If the plan has already passed, you can ask how it went. If you need more time, give a realistic time and save a reminder for the next step.
Does Poko cancel the reminder if I reply early?
No. Poko cannot tell whether you replied. Send “list” in Poko's chat, find the pending reminder, and send “cancel N” using its number from the latest list. A recurring reminder also needs to be cancelled when you no longer want it.

Remember the reply you meant to send.

Tell Poko who you need to reply to, what about, and when. Return to the conversation when the reminder arrives.
