Android reminder apps

The 7 best reminder apps for Android in 2026

Google Tasks is the best reminder app for most Android users because it is free, works beside Gmail and Google Calendar, supports repeating tasks, and can accept reminders through Gemini. Galaxy owners should test Samsung Reminder first because it is designed for Samsung phones and can capture reminders from Bixby, calls, messages and other Samsung apps.

TickTick is better when reminders belong beside habits and focus sessions. Todoist is the strongest project system, Microsoft To Do is the best completely free option for Android and Windows, Any.do combines reminders with a daily planner, and Pokobot delivers the alert as a WhatsApp message. We build Pokobot, so this is not an independent ranking. We checked first-party product documentation and public plans on 28 September 2026 and name a limitation for every option below.

The short answer

Start with the reminder system closest to the rest of your phone. Google Tasks is the simplest free choice for people who use Gmail, Calendar and Gemini. Samsung Reminder is the better built-in-style choice on a Galaxy phone. Install a larger task manager only when you need its projects, habits, shared lists, calendar views or cross-platform access.

Android reminder reliability depends on the phone as well as the app. Notification permission, alarm permission, Do Not Disturb, battery saving, unused-app settings and manufacturer background restrictions can all change what arrives. A longer feature list cannot compensate for a notification that your phone delays or hides.

How we compared Android reminder apps

For Android, saving the reminder is only half the job. We compared capture through typing, voice and widgets; one-off and recurring schedules; the way the alert behaves; whether the app documents Android notification problems; cross-platform access; organisation; collaboration; and what remains available without paying.

We also separated a task repeat from a repeating alert. An app may create a new task every Monday without repeatedly notifying you after Monday's alert is dismissed. Those are different behaviours, and an important task should be tested on the exact phone that will receive it.

This is a fit comparison, not a score based on feature count. Prices, limits, Android versions and manufacturer settings change. The linked official pages are the source of truth, and prices can vary by country or store. Confirm the current plan and test delivery before moving important reminders.

Before installing another app, test the phone

Create a harmless reminder due in two minutes, lock the screen and wait. If it arrives late or silently, check the app's notification permission and notification category before changing apps. Android lets you control sound, vibration, lock-screen visibility and other behaviour by app, although menu names vary by phone.

Some Android phones can pause an app you have not opened recently, stop it in the background and prevent notifications. If a reminder app matters, review its unused-app setting. On a Galaxy phone, also check whether the app was placed in Sleeping apps or Deep sleeping apps. Samsung provides a Never sleeping apps list, with the tradeoff that excluded apps may use more background battery.

Only relax battery restrictions for an app you trust and actually depend on. Then test again with the screen locked, Battery Saver in its normal state and Do Not Disturb configured the way you use it. Do not use medication, safety, travel or payment deadlines as the first experiment.

1. Google Tasks: best for most Android users

Google Tasks is the sensible starting point when your work already passes through Gmail and Google Calendar. You can turn an email into a task, add a date and time, organise tasks into lists, add subtasks and create daily, weekly, monthly, yearly or custom repeats. Dated tasks appear in Calendar, and the same account is available on Android and the web.

Gemini can add, show, edit and delete Google Tasks reminders on Android after Google Workspace is connected. That gives Google Tasks a useful voice path without another task app. Google also documents a specific Android permission for delayed or missing alerts: Tasks may need permission under Special app access, then Alarms and reminders.

The tradeoff is depth. Google Tasks does not offer the project views, filters, habit tracking or multiple reminder styles found in larger systems. Repeating shared tasks and subtasks also have restrictions. Choose it for simple personal tasks inside Google, not as a full project manager.

2. Samsung Reminder: best for Galaxy phones

Samsung Reminder is the first app to test on a Galaxy phone because it connects to the rest of Samsung's device experience. Reminders can use a time or place, and Samsung documents capture from calls, messages, notes and Bixby. Supported newer Galaxy devices can also let Gemini add or manage reminders through the Samsung Reminder connection.

Samsung Reminder can sync one selected list with Microsoft To Do on Galaxy models that support the integration. That can put reminders created from Bixby, calls, notes and messages onto a PC or the web, but the two systems do not expose every field in the same way. Samsung notes that some alert types, checklists and faster repeat details remain specific to its app.

Choose Samsung Reminder when you own a Galaxy and want device-level capture. Skip it when reminders must work naturally on several Android brands or when a web and desktop task manager is the main requirement. Its close device integration is the reason to use it and the reason it is not the universal Android winner.

3. TickTick: best for reminders, habits and focus

TickTick combines reminders with lists, notes, a calendar, habit tracking, a Pomodoro timer, countdowns and an Eisenhower Matrix. Its Android app supports widgets, voice capture, natural-language dates, flexible recurring tasks and Wear OS, while the same account syncs to the web, Windows, Mac and iPhone.

The free plan includes cross-platform sync, recurring tasks and up to two reminders per task. Premium is listed at $49.99 per year in the US, expands reminder capacity and calendars, and includes Constant Reminder. That makes TickTick the strongest choice here when one system should handle tasks, routines and focus sessions.

The tradeoff is complexity. A person who wants a single alert may never use most of the product. Choose TickTick for the surrounding system and test Constant Reminder on your own phone before treating it as a guarantee that every alert will cut through silent, battery or Do Not Disturb settings.

4. Todoist: best for projects across Android, desktop and web

Todoist is the strongest option here when reminders belong inside projects. Quick Add understands dates in a sentence, while projects, sections, labels, priorities, filters and shared tasks can organise much more than isolated alerts. The Android app includes widgets, configurable notification sound and snoozing, and the same account works on Windows, Mac, iPhone and the web.

The free Beginner plan includes task reminders and five personal projects. Pro adds 300 personal projects, calendar layout, task duration and custom task reminders. There is an Android-specific limitation worth knowing: Todoist says recurring reminders cannot currently be created in its Android app, so you must use its web or desktop app for that alert pattern. Recurring task due dates are a different feature.

Choose Todoist when you will review and maintain a real project system. Google Tasks is simpler for personal Gmail-based reminders, while TickTick is better when habit and focus tools matter as much as project structure.

5. Microsoft To Do: best completely free choice for Android and Windows

Microsoft To Do provides lists, steps, notes, file attachments, shared lists, one-time or recurring due dates and separate reminder times without a paid tier. My Day creates a focused daily list, Outlook users can turn flagged email into tasks, and Android widgets make capture and review easier from the Home screen.

The app is free across Android, Windows, Mac, iPhone and the web. That makes it the best choice when an Android phone and Windows PC need the same straightforward lists without a subscription. Microsoft also publishes an Android troubleshooting guide because system settings and manufacturer restrictions can suppress reminder notifications.

Choose Microsoft To Do for cost, Windows access and Outlook integration. Todoist is stronger for advanced organisation, TickTick adds habits and focus tools, and Samsung Reminder is better integrated with a Galaxy phone. Keep personal tasks in a personal Microsoft account rather than an employer account you may lose later.

6. Any.do: best Android planner with optional WhatsApp reminders

Any.do combines tasks, reminders, a calendar and a daily planning routine. Its Android app supports widgets, Wear OS, voice capture and one-time or recurring reminders. The free Personal plan includes tasks, lists, ordinary reminders, calendar access and device sync.

Premium is listed at $4.99 per month when billed annually in the US and adds advanced recurring rules, location reminders and WhatsApp reminders. The WhatsApp bot can create tasks, accept forwarded messages and deliver reminders, but recurring reminders must be created in the main app and completed there for the next occurrence to continue correctly.

Choose Any.do when you want a planner first and WhatsApp as an extra channel. Choose Google Tasks for a smaller free system, TickTick for habits and focus, or Pokobot when you want the whole reminder lifecycle to stay inside one WhatsApp thread rather than extend a separate app.

7. Pokobot: best when the Android reminder should arrive in WhatsApp

Pokobot is a WhatsApp contact rather than a native Android task app. Send a sentence such as β€œremind me to call the electrician tomorrow at 10am,” check the confirmed date and time, and the reminder returns as a WhatsApp message. One-off reminders, recurring schedules, snoozing, cancellation and reminders for another person stay inside the same chat.

The advantage is a delivery channel many Android users already open throughout the day. There is no extra app, account form, project inbox or widget to maintain. The limitations are equally important: Pokobot has no offline reminders, location triggers, Home screen widgets, Wear OS app, projects, attachments or permanent free plan. WhatsApp notifications can also be muted or restricted, so test the chat on your phone.

Every feature is included during a 7-day trial with no card required. After that, reminders need a paid subscription. Choose Pokobot when a message solves your notification problem. Choose Google Tasks, Samsung Reminder or a full task manager when deeper Android integration matters more.

Choose by the reason your Android reminder fails

Name the failure before switching apps. A new interface will not fix disabled notifications, aggressive battery settings or a reminder that you always swipe away.

Test delivery before moving important reminders

Run the test on the actual phone you carry. Android behaviour varies by version and manufacturer, and a successful alert while the app is open proves very little about background delivery. Keep critical obligations in your established system until the replacement has alerted correctly more than once.

  1. Create a two-minute reminder

Use typing, Gemini, a widget, voice input or WhatsApp, whichever capture method you would genuinely use while busy.

  2. Confirm the saved schedule

Check the exact date, time, timezone, repeat rule and destination list. Do not assume natural-language or voice input understood an ambiguous phrase.

  3. Lock the phone and wait

Test the normal background path. Check sound, vibration, lock-screen visibility and the actions offered on the notification.

  4. Repeat under your usual settings

Try again with the Battery Saver, Do Not Disturb and bedtime settings you normally use. Review unused-app or sleeping-app restrictions if delivery changes.

  5. Reschedule, complete and cancel

A reminder system must stay understandable when plans change. Test a recurring task and confirm what happens to its next occurrence.

Questions, answered

What is the best reminder app for Android?
Google Tasks is the best starting point for most Android users because it is free and works with Gmail, Calendar and Gemini. Samsung Reminder is better for Galaxy-specific integration. Choose TickTick or Todoist when you need a larger task system, Microsoft To Do for free Windows sync, or Pokobot when you prefer WhatsApp delivery.
What is the best free reminder app for Android?
Google Tasks is the simplest free choice for Google users. Microsoft To Do is the best completely free option when the same lists must also work on Windows and the web. Samsung Reminder is included on supported Galaxy phones. TickTick, Todoist and Any.do have useful free plans with paid advanced features.
What is the best reminder app for a Samsung phone?
Start with Samsung Reminder because it integrates with Galaxy features and Samsung apps. Google Tasks is better if your reminders belong in Gmail and Google Calendar. Microsoft To Do is useful if you also need Windows access, and supported Galaxy models can connect one To Do list to Samsung Reminder.
Can Gemini create reminders on Android?
Yes. Gemini can add, show, edit and delete reminders in Google Tasks after the required Google Workspace connection is enabled. It can also work with Samsung Reminder on supported Galaxy S25 or later devices and selected Samsung phones running One UI 7 or later. Check the saved task after voice capture.
Why do Android reminders arrive late or not at all?
Common causes include disabled notification categories, missing alarm permission, Do Not Disturb, Battery Saver, Data Saver, unused-app pausing and manufacturer background restrictions. Check the app's own support steps and your phone maker's instructions, then test with a harmless two-minute reminder.
Which Android reminder app keeps reminding me until I act?
TickTick lists Constant Reminder as a Premium feature. Other apps may offer snoozing or several reminders rather than a persistent alarm. Test the exact behaviour on your phone because silent mode, Do Not Disturb and battery restrictions can still affect delivery.
Which Android reminder app works best with Windows?
Microsoft To Do is the best completely free choice for Android and Windows. Todoist is stronger for advanced project organisation, while TickTick adds habits, calendar views and focus tools. Google Tasks works through Google's web interfaces rather than a native Windows application.
Can I receive Android reminders through WhatsApp?
Yes. Pokobot sends the due reminder as a WhatsApp message and is managed through the same chat. Any.do also offers WhatsApp reminders on paid plans. Neither option bypasses muted or restricted WhatsApp notifications, so test delivery on your phone.
Do reminder apps work in Battery Saver mode?
They may, but Android versions and phone manufacturers handle background work differently. Some apps document delayed or suppressed notifications under battery or data restrictions. Test your chosen app with the settings you normally use and avoid removing restrictions from apps you do not trust.
You make Pokobot. Is this comparison independent?
No. Pokobot publishes this guide and appears in the list. The guide recommends Google Tasks for most Android users, Samsung Reminder for Galaxy owners, links to first-party sources and names a limitation for every option, including Pokobot.
