The best reminder apps in India
Declaring the obvious first: we make Pokobot, which is on this list. You should read everything below knowing that, and we have tried to earn the read by being specific about where the other tools genuinely win. Three of them are free and already on your phone, and for a lot of people that is the correct answer.
The list is sorted by the job you need doing, not by rating, because “best reminder app” is not really a question anyone has. What people actually have is a situation: I keep missing rent, my mother forgets her medicine, I want the deadline to reach me while I am on the shop floor.
What actually matters here
Four things separate these tools in practice, and none of them is the feature list.
The first is delivery. A reminder is only worth what it costs you to ignore it, and an app notification competes with a hundred others you already dismiss without reading. The second is capture cost: how many taps between the thought and it being safely stored. The third is price in rupees, since a tool billed at $5 a month is a different proposition here than a tool billed at ₹59. The fourth is whether it works on a mid-range Android without a Play Store account you are logged into and 300MB to spare.
Sorted on those four, the field separates cleanly.
Already on your phone, and free
Start here before you install anything. If one of these fits, you are done and it costs nothing.
Google Keep is the fastest note on Android and can attach a time to one. Apple Reminders is genuinely good and, on an iPhone, hard to beat for basic use. Google Tasks is already inside Gmail and Calendar. Google Assistant takes a spoken reminder, which is unbeatable when your hands are busy.
The shared weakness is the last mile. All four deliver through a system notification, which is the thing you have trained yourself to clear. They are excellent at storing a reminder and ordinary at making you notice one.
Full task managers, if you want a system
If your problem is not one forgotten task but a hundred of them across projects, a real task manager is the right tool and a reminder bot is not. These are the good ones.
Todoist has the best natural-language input of the lot and a genuinely nice Android app. TickTick bundles habits and a pomodoro timer, which suits people who want one app for everything. Microsoft To Do is free and excellent if your life already runs through a Microsoft work account. Any.do has its own WhatsApp integration, which makes it the most direct comparison to us. Remember The Milk sends reminders through several channels at once.
The trade is the same in every case: you get structure, and in exchange you have to maintain it. Projects, labels, and a weekly review are the price of a system, and most people who bounce off these tools bounce off that price rather than the app.
Calendar-shaped tools
If the thing you are tracking has a time and a place and other people attached, it is an event, and it belongs in a calendar rather than a reminder tool.
Google Calendar is the default for good reason and is the right home for anything with a meeting attached. Tweek is a lovely minimal weekly planner for people who think in weeks rather than lists.
Where both struggle is the small, timed, personal thing. Nobody is creating a calendar event to remember to take the clothes off the line, and a calendar notification has the same last-mile problem as everything else in this section.
Build it yourself
You can wire reminders into WhatsApp with automation tools, and plenty of people have. Zapier and IFTTT will both do it, and if you already live in those tools it is a reasonable afternoon's work.
Two honest caveats. Free tiers on both are tight enough that a daily reminder will hit them, and an automation with four steps has four things that can silently stop working. The failure mode is not an error message, it is a reminder that quietly never arrives, which you find out about later.
Chat-native reminders
The last group puts the reminder where you already are. Messaging yourself on WhatsApp is free and universal, and it is a note rather than a nudge: nothing arrives later, so it only works if you remember to scroll back. Telegram has a mature bot ecosystem, and if your circle is on Telegram those bots are good. In India, most people's circle is not.
Pokobot is our answer to this. It is a WhatsApp contact you text in plain English, and it messages you back at the time you named. No install, no account, and reminders arrive in the same list as everyone else you talk to. It handles one-offs, recurring schedules, repeats faster than daily with a quiet window overnight, Google Calendar events, and reminders for other people once they have agreed to them.
It costs ₹59/month or ₹499/year in India, and is free for 7 days with no card. That price is the reason the India framing matters: several tools above are priced in dollars, which is a different decision at Indian salaries.
When you should not use us
If you need projects, subtasks, dependencies, or any view of your work as a whole, use Todoist or TickTick. We have no project structure and are not trying to grow one.
If everything you track is a meeting with other people, use Google Calendar. If you are already deep in a Microsoft or Apple ecosystem and its built-in tool is working for you, changing costs more than it returns. And if your phone's own reminders app already gets your attention reliably, that is the whole job, and it is free.
What we are the right answer to is narrower: a timed personal reminder that you cannot afford to have arrive somewhere you will not look.
Questions, answered
- What is the best free reminder app in India?
- Whichever one came with your phone. Google Keep or Google Tasks on Android, Apple Reminders on an iPhone, and Google Assistant for anything spoken. All are free with no limits worth worrying about. Their common weakness is delivery: they notify you through the system tray, which is easy to dismiss without reading.
- Which reminder app works without installing anything?
- A WhatsApp reminder bot, because it is a chat rather than an app. Pokobot works this way: you message a number and reminders come back as WhatsApp messages. There is nothing to download and no account to create.
- How much do reminder apps cost in India?
- It varies a lot, and the currency matters. The tools built into your phone are free. Most international task managers price their paid tiers in dollars, which is a meaningful difference at Indian salaries. Pokobot is priced locally at ₹59/month or ₹499/year, with 7 days free and no card required.
- Is a WhatsApp reminder bot better than a task app?
- For a different job, yes. A task app is better if you are managing many tasks across projects and want structure. A WhatsApp bot is better if the problem is a handful of timed things that keep slipping, because capture is one sentence and the reminder arrives somewhere you actually read.
- You make one of these. Why should I trust the list?
- You should read it sceptically, which is why we said so in the first line. The check we would apply: the list recommends free tools already on your phone before ours, names the cases where Todoist, TickTick and Google Calendar beat us, and includes a section on when not to use us. Every product above has its own full comparison page you can read.
