To set a reminder in Slack, type /remind me, then what and when, in any message box, such as “/remind me to send the report at 3pm”. To be reminded about a particular message, hover over it, click the three-dot menu and choose Remind me about this. For a whole team, use /remind with a channel name, such as “/remind #marketing to submit expenses every Friday at 3pm”.

Slackbot delivers your reminders as notifications, and personal reminders also appear in the Later tab in your sidebar; some newer versions of Slack call it To-dos. Below are the exact formats, recurring examples, how to manage reminders and what Slack reminders can't do.

Steps were checked against Slack Help on 7 October 2026. Slack's interface changes often, so labels may differ slightly in your workspace.

## How to use the /remind command

The format is /remind, then who (me or a #channel), then what, then when. Slack replies with a confirmation only you can see, so check the time it understood. If you give a day without a time, Slack delivers the reminder at 9am in your time zone by default.

| You type | What happens |
| --- | --- |
| /remind me to call Priya in 20 minutes | A one-off reminder 20 minutes from now |
| /remind me to submit my timesheet at 4pm on Friday | A one-off reminder on Friday at 4pm |
| /remind me to file expenses on the 1st of every month | Repeats on the 1st of each month, at 9am unless you add a time |
| /remind me to check my tasks at 9:15am every weekday | Repeats Monday to Friday at 9:15am |
| /remind #team to clean out the fridge every Friday at 3pm | Slackbot posts the reminder in #team every Friday |
| /remind me to stretch every hour | Won't work: Slack repeats by the day, not by the hour |

## How to get reminded about a message

When a message needs action later, set the reminder on the message itself so it links straight back to the conversation.

1. **On a computer** Hover over the message or file, click the three-dot icon, then choose Remind me about this. Pick a suggested time or choose a custom one.

2. **On your phone** Tap and hold the message or file, then tap Remind me and choose when.

3. **Find it again** The reminder appears in the Later tab with your other saved items and reminders, and Slackbot notifies you when it is due.

## How to create a personal reminder without a command

On a computer, click the Later tab in your sidebar, click the plus sign at the top of the list, choose a date and time and type the reminder. On your phone, go to the Home tab, tap the plus sign and create it there. This is handy when you don't want to remember the /remind wording.

## Set a reminder for a channel or a teammate

To remind a whole channel, run /remind in that channel, such as “/remind #design to post the weekly update every Monday at 10am”. At the set time, Slackbot posts the reminder in the channel for everyone to see. On paid plans, mentioning a user group in the reminder notifies everyone in it.

Slack no longer lets you set a reminder directly for another person. To nudge one teammate, set a channel reminder that mentions them, send them a direct message at a scheduled time, or ask them to set the reminder themselves. For a recurring team message, Workflow Builder can post on a schedule.

## How to see, edit or delete Slack reminders

Your own reminders live in the Later tab. Click the tick icon to mark one complete, the clock icon to change its time, or the three-dot icon and then Delete reminder to remove it.

Channel reminders are managed from the channel. Type /remind list in that channel and send it, and Slack shows a message only you can see, listing the channel reminders you can delete.

## What Slack reminders can't do

Slack reminders can't repeat by the hour, can't be set for another individual, and only reach you through Slack, so they are easy to miss if notifications are paused or you are away from the app. They also belong to your workspace account, so personal reminders stored there disappear if you leave the company or lose access.

That makes Slack a good place for work reminders tied to messages and channels, and a poor place for personal ones like a dentist appointment, a bill or picking up a prescription.

## For reminders outside work

If you want personal reminders kept away from your work account, Pokobot sends them to WhatsApp. You type them in plain English, and unlike Slack it can repeat within a time window, such as every 45 minutes during working hours, as well as daily, weekly or monthly.

It doesn't connect to Slack or post in channels; it is for your own reminders, and for people who have agreed to receive yours. Every feature is free for 7 days with no card required, then a paid subscription.

## FAQ

**How do I set a reminder in Slack?** Type /remind me, followed by what and when, in any message box, such as “/remind me to send the report at 3pm”. You can also hover over a message, open the three-dot menu and choose Remind me about this.

**How do I set a recurring reminder in Slack?** Add the repeat to your /remind message, such as “every Monday”, “every weekday” or “on the 1st of every month”. Slack can repeat by the day, but not by the hour.

**Can I set a Slack reminder for someone else?** Not directly any more. Set a channel reminder that mentions them, schedule a direct message to them, or ask them to set the reminder themselves.

**How do I see my reminders in Slack?** Personal reminders are in the Later tab in your sidebar, which some newer versions call To-dos. For channel reminders, type /remind list in that channel.

**How do I delete a reminder in Slack?** In the Later tab, click the three-dot icon on the reminder and choose Delete reminder. For a channel reminder, type /remind list in the channel and delete it from the list Slack shows you.

**Can Slack remind me every hour?** No. Slack reminders repeat by the day, such as every Monday or every weekday, not in hourly increments. For repeats every few hours, you would need another tool.

**What time do Slack reminders arrive if I don't give one?** By default, Slack delivers a reminder at 9am in your time zone if you give a day without a time.
