**Why does the UK tax year end on 5 April?** A leftover from the 1752 calendar change, when eleven days were dropped and the old New Year of 25 March was shifted to keep the tax year the same length.

**Does the ISA allowance carry over?** No. Whatever you have not used by 5 April is lost, and a new allowance starts on 6 April.
