# Days until the Self Assessment deadline 2027

> How many days until the UK Self Assessment deadline on 31 January 2027? Countdown, what is due, the £100 late penalty, and WhatsApp reminders to file and pay in time.

It falls on Sunday, January 31, 2027. The online Self Assessment return and any tax owed are due by midnight on 31 January each year.

The 31 January deadline covers the online return for the tax year that ended the previous 5 April, the balancing payment for that year, and the first payment on account for the current one. Miss it and HMRC charges an automatic £100 penalty, even if you owe nothing.
The paper return deadline is earlier, 31 October. If it is your first return, registering for Self Assessment and getting the activation code takes weeks, so the useful reminder is in the autumn.

**When is the paper deadline?** 31 October, three months earlier than the online one.

**How do the reminders work?** Each Remind me button opens WhatsApp with one message already typed for Poko, dated for this year's occurrence. You press Send, Poko confirms the date, and the message arrives on WhatsApp when it is due. Nothing is sent by this page.
